May 12, 7-9pm

Bryan Hamlin, botanist, author, and biology teacher at Medford High School, will speak on “Spring in the Middlesex Fells,” covering the early signs of Spring from February through the burst of beauty in May and June. His presentation also deals with how early bloomers adapt to cold and with pollinators.

Anyone who has been to the Middlesex Fells reservation knows of its wide variety of flora, enough to intrigue the most interested visitor. Bryan Hamlin will present a detailed look at the spring wild flowers available in the Fells. His presentation will include photographs of the Fells in different seasons.

Hamlin grew up in England where his parents were avid gardeners, kindling his interest in biology. He teaches at Medford High School and serves on the board of the Friends of the Fells and the New England Botanical Club. Currently, he is writing a history of the Fells reservation and the plants found there over the last century.

Bryan will follow up his SGC presentation with a tour of the Fells on Saturday, 5/15, from 10 a.m.-noon (rain date Sunday 5/16, same time).
