Please note that due to the Veterans Day holiday, this meeting is the third Wednesday, rather than the second.

A Year in the Life of a Beekeeper

Birgit Deweerd, formally trained as a chemist, took up beekeeping as a hobby over 20 years ago. After coursework and learning the practice from experienced beekeepers, she started making honey and beeswax products and established deWeerd Bee Products. Her talk, ‘A Year in the Life of a Beekeeper’ will illustrate the activities in and around a beehive from January to the fall’s honey harvest. The emphasis, appropriate for gardeners and others interested in pollinators, will be on flowers and blossoms attractive to bees.

She will also cover the recent concerns over beehive die off and what beekeepers are trying to do about it.
