April 8, 2026 – Native Plants for Containers

Native Plants for Containers

Do you live in an apartment or condo but still want to feed our pollinator friends? This presentation will show you how to install a pollinator-friendly container on your balcony, front stoop, or patio. Wherever your outdoor corner is, there’s a native plant or three that will thrive there! We’ll cover keystone species, the importance of pollinator pathways, and a solid plant list for containers. North Shore native plant gardener Cheryl Rafuse will tell you all about the bees and butterflies, flowers and shrubs, and the easiest ways to start incorporating keystone species into your containers — no matter the size.

Cheryl Rafuse owns and operates Plant Magic Gardens in Danvers, MA. They are an ecologically conscious gardening company that focuses on planting native plants. She and her team of top-notch gardeners design and install gardens, and perform garden maintenance. Cheryl tries to provide educational opportunities to the community and her clients about how we can all support local pollinators and wildlife with our gardens.

In-person meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at the Tufts Administration Building, (TAB), 167 Holland Street, second floor, wheelchair accessible. Parking is available for a small fee, and the building is a ten-minute walk from the Davis Square MBTA stop.

All Somerville Garden Club meetings are free and open to the public. 7-9pm. The SGC has been informed that the entry doors to the TAB will be locked at 8pm, effective immediately, including on our meeting days. Please arrange your arrival times accordingly.
