Design-less Gardening: An Ecological Approach

Dan Jaffe will discuss his ideas on disregarding traditional design rules and adopting a new approach to garden design by looking to nature for inspiration. He will share his expertise on creating a design-less, low maintenance garden with an ecological approach; a garden that does not require many inputs in the way of watering, fertilizing, or extra coddling on your part.

Dan Jaffe is a propagator and stock bed grower at the New England Wild Flower Society. He earned a degree in botany from the University of Maine, Orono, ME. He is a previous intern at Garden in the Woods, followed by a year at the Garden as Plant Sales Coordinator. Before Garden in the Woods, he had four years nursery experience including management responsibilities. Native plants and ecology are his strongest passions.

Meeting – August 14, 7-9pm

The August 14th meeting focuses on the “Garden Bounty” grown by Somerville Garden Club members. Members will bring in samples of fresh or cooked produce from their own gardens to share, and will also talk about growing the produce and how it was prepared. Plus there will be a group exchange of gardening questions and answers.

NOTE:

  • Also, bring labels listing your samples’ ingredients for attendees who might have food allergies

All Somerville Garden Club meetings are free and open to the public. Meetings are usually held the second Wednesday of each month at the Tufts Administration Building, (TAB), 167 Holland Street, second floor, wheelchair accessible. Parking is available, and the building is a ten-minute walk from the Davis Square MBTA stop.
