Somerville Garden Club

Scholarship Program

The Somerville Garden Club Scholarship Program offers grants up to $250 to its members who take courses or participate in workshops with tuition fees. These activities should be consistent with the club’s mission: sharing gardening interests and expertise, sustaining the environment, and promoting urban green spaces.

Suggested topics of courses:

  • sound gardening practices
  • use of native species
  • conserving water
  • other topics relevant to the urban environment

Application Deadline: Rolling

Who is eligible: All SGC members except those who earn part or all of their income from professional gardening activities.

How to apply:

  1. Identify the course/workshop you wish to take relevant to the SGC mission offered by an area institution, such as: Mass Horticultural Society, Native Plant Trust, New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, Arnold Arboretum, Cambridge Center for Adult Ed, Ecological Landscape Alliance and others in and beyond Boston.
  2. Email scholars@somervillegardenclub.org and provide the title, a brief description of the event, the sponsor, location, cost, and course dates.
  3. On completion of the course/workshop, email receipt and evidence of attendance/completion to scholars@somervillegardenclub.org

You can email the Scholarship Program Committee (as of February 2025: Bill Bennett and Cynthia Stillinger) at scholars@somervillegardenclub.org for more information.

If you’re up for it, club members would love to hear about what you learn (in an item for the newsletter or a presentation at one of our meetings)!
