Native Ferns and Wildflowers for Shade Gardens or – What did the Victorians know that I don’t with Leslie Duthie

We will show a video of Leslie Duthie’s recent talk to the Lexington Living Landscape Partnership at Cary Memorial Library in Lexington, MA. Leslie Duthie has worked in ecological horticulture throughout her entire career. She spent the last 35 years managing 75 acres of public trails, woods and gardens in a wildlife sanctuary in central MA. She is a speaker, an educator, a plant propagator, a grower of ferns, a mentor and a lover of open spaces.

Lexington Living Landscapes was formed in 2020 as a partnership between the Sustainable Lexington Committee, the Lexington Field and Garden Club, the Lexington Global Warming Action Coalition, and Citizens for Lexington Conservation. They encourage public and private land managers to adopt practices that protect our health and the environment. They focus on education and programming to support positive changes in adapting home gardens, lawns, and other landscaped spaces to be more wildlife-friendly through planting native plants, controlling invasive species, and tending our gardens in ways that benefit wildlife.

In-person meetings are held the at the Tufts Administration Building, (TAB), 167 Holland Street, second floor, wheelchair accessible. Parking is available for a small fee, and the building is a ten-minute walk from the Davis Square MBTA stop.

All Somerville Garden Club meetings are free and open to the public. 7-9pm. The SGC has been informed that the entry doors to the TAB will be locked at 8pm, effective immediately, including on our meeting days. Please arrange your arrival times accordingly.
